Setting DiesFor ARP Presses, Auto-Setting Grommet & Eyelet Machines King Richard, LLC has a complete line of custom dies to fit your needs. King Richard, LLC can make dies for most hand, foot, electric or pneumatic eyelet, grommet and rivet machines made by Stimpson Co., United Shoe Machine, Segal Co. and others. We also carry a large stock of 3/8 inch shank kick press dies in stock for most standard eyelets. Die sets consist of a top die machined to match the eyelet, grommet or rivet flange. The bottom die can roll or score set and can be made with any of the four setting points illustrated below.
LOCATING POINT: This setting die is used for material with a hole pre-punched. The rounded tip is used to locate the hole without scratching or marring the material. This die can be used on cloth, leather, plastic, cardboard, paper or metal. The setting can be scored or rolled and can be used with a washer. PIERCE POINT: This setting die has a sharp point that is used to pierce loosely woven fabrics. This separates the fibers rather than cutting them and makes for a stronger setting. Operator must force the material down over the point. The setting can be scored or rolled and can be used with a washer. BODKIN POINT: This setting die is also used to cut material. The die is made with three sharp cutting edges and is used for woven fabric, plastic or rubber like material. Operator must force the material down over the point. Setting can be scored or rolled and can be used with a washer. CUTTING POINT: This setting die is used on double revolution machines or hand feed applications. On the first stroke of the machine the flat pointed bottom die meets with the top die cutting the material. The second revolution will then set the eyelet. This die works best on stiff materials like light cardboard, plastic, rubber or metal. The setting can be scored or rolled and can be used with a washer.
All of the above bottom dies can be made to either score or roll set an eyelet, grommet or a rivet. The SCORED SETTING is used when the widest setting possible is needed and appearance and smoothness of the setting is not an important consideration. The prongs of the setting can be embedded in the work forming a stronger setting. This setting is recommended for tight woven fabric, leather, rubber or sheet like material. The ROLL SETTING is used where smoothness and appearance of the setting is important. The die will produce a smooth unbroken roll like a donut. The roll setting is best suited for stiff materials like plastic, thick leather, cardboard or metal. A roll setting can also be used in soft or stretchy material in combination with a washer for added holding strength |
